Meet Cardiff born and bred Julie Bowen-Lewis. She's been married to her husband Kev for 24 years, and has worked in horticulture since leaving school. Julie was the very first female trainee taken on by Cardiff City Council in 1975 under their apprentice scheme and is now the operations manager for an interior landscape company, which supplies, installs and maintains tropical plant displays - anything from a small bowl on a desk to five meter tall trees. She's a busy lady - in her spare time she's a leader for Castleton Brownies, she's tracing her family tree and also makes time for photography, reading crime thrillers, gardening & having fun - phew!

"In the last month I've switched my gas and electric, saving over £75 per year. With regard to saving energy, we have changed all our light bulbs to the long lasting, energy saver type. The thermostat on the central heating is set so the house is not being heated when we're not here, coming on half an hour before we're in from work or get up in the morning. We've also made sure the loft is well insulated, and in the winter we have full length curtains across the front & back doors which also makes quite a difference. We've put heavier curtains up at the windows too, these are drawn as soon as it starts to get dark, helping to keep the warmth in the rooms.
