The impact of postcode on premiums

Insurers will take many factors into account when calculating the cost of cover, including the value of the building and its contents as well as the crime rate and number of previous claims in the area.

Homes that are at an increased risk of flooding or those built on land prone to subsidence are also typically more expensive to insure.

These factors go some way to explaining how a home’s postcode can have such an effect on the cost of cover.
