Unlike many of its neighbours in the north of England, mining in Winsford was focussed around the extraction of salt. The UK's biggest rock salt mine is based here and is one of only three in the whole of the British isles. Its also considered to be one of Britain's first ever mines. The town's leisure pursuits is largely made up of sports, with many football, cricket and swimming teams competing in local leagues.Back to top
