The price war on British broadband seems to be escalating to new levels after TalkTalk announced yesterday, a whole new inclusive package costing just £5.89 per month. Customers will have to pay £10.50 line rental (the same as BT) which does make the whole package cost £16.39 per month and customers do need to sign an 18 month contract.
The package called ‘Talk2 International’ consists of unlimited evening and weekend calls within the UK, plus calls to 36 international destinations. The broadband service offered is up to 8Mb/s, has a 40GB download limit and comes with a free modem. There is however a one-off connection fee of £29.99.
Carphone Warehouse provide a similar service called ‘Talk3 International’ which offers unlimited inclusive UK calls at anytime. Nevertheless Carphone Warehouse believe their new package will be suited to more people, as less people use their phones during the day, but are more likely to make calls in the evenings and weekends.
David Thatcher, managing director of TalkTalk said “Many customers tell us they don’t use their home phone during the day so we’ve come up with something for people who make landline calls when they get home from work and at the weekends… We’re committed to providing the best value around; we pioneered free broadband and on landline our position remains clear - if you want to pay less join TalkTalk.”
