A deal has been brokered between the football league and Virgin Media to offer match action over customer’s mobiles and broadband connections.
The move only shortly before the Coca Cola championship begins enables customers to watch full matches and access highlights from matches up to a week after original transmission. The deal is the first of its kind and is sure to please Virgin Media customers as well as recruit more to their service.
At the announcement of the deal, Football League chairman Lord Mawhinney said: "This agreement will give fans even more opportunities to see their team in action, as well as providing clubs with a new source of revenue."
Malcolm Wall, chief executive officer of content at Virgin Media, stated that the group was "committed to investing in great content" for its customers. Whilst saying that the service would provide football fans with a “value-added service”.
