The Post Office has entered the broadband market with a range of competitively priced offers.

The entry level Post Office Broadband deal offers speeds of up to 8Mbps, a 5GB monthly download limit and free set up and modem for £15.95 per month.

Meanwhile, for £20.95 per month the Post Office Homephone with Broadband Standard bundle offers the same upload and download specifications as well as free evening and weekend calls and to other Post Office Homephone customers.

Both deals also include email and anti-virus software, free set up and 24-hour technical support.

Mark Main, a senior analyst at Ovum said that to secure a share of the increasingly competitive broadband market, the Post Office will need to distinguish itself by delivering its promised speeds and through a high standard of customer service.

He told Vnunet: "[The Post Office] must gain a strong marketing push to get itself into the running against already established competitors that know the market better.

"More importantly, it has to deliver on speed consistency, something that is getting a lot of attention in the media today, and on service support throughout the customer lifetime."
