Wireless broadband specialists FREEDOM4 (otherwise known as Pipex Wireless) have unveiled a new partnership with a Buckinghamshire local authority.
The ISP will hook up with Milton Keynes council to expand its wireless networks to cover some of the town's most deprived areas.
It is anticipated that the new plan will be of particular benefit to local children - with students from the town's Leon School and Sports College able to borrow laptops and get home broadband access for free.
Yesterday, 60 of the firm's special WiMAX connections - along with laptops - were set up for the students.
Business development director at FREEDOM4 Graham Currier commented: "I'm delighted to be expanding the use of WiMAX in Milton Keynes and helping to benefit the community.
"Using WiMAX the students can now access the internet, an increasingly important resource in today's education. We are looking forward to extending our WiMAX service to other areas of Milton Keynes."
ISPreview reports that the Buckinghamshire town has traditionally suffered from a marked lack of fixed-line connections - making it prime territory for wireless firms looking to trial new technology.
