The largest ever customer survey of UK broadband users has revealed that one in two people interviewed are unhappy with their service.

According to price comparison site uSwitch, although average speeds are higher than ever before and the cost of broadband packages is at its lowest, many people are still disappointed with their internet service provider (ISP).

PlusNet came out on top in the poll of ISPs, with 86 per cent of customers satisfied with their packages.

UK provider Orange was found to be the worst performer for the third consecutive year, with approximately a third of its 1.5 million customers expressing disappointment.

The difference between best and worst ISPs has also widened by eight per cent in less than a year, uSwitch reports.

PlusNet's residential packages start at £9.99 on a monthly contract basis, including a free router. Its 8GB package costs £14.99 per month and includes a wireless router and 120 free evening and weekend minutes using a broadband phone service.
