BT's Home Hubs have proved to be an international success with the news that over three million of the devices have now been shipped overseas.

Less than two years after the products was first released in the UK, the firm - with co-operation from Thomson - has announced the landmark, which signals a triumph for the versatile router which is compatible with high speed wireless DSL and open WiFi.

Commenting on the news, Steve Andrews, managing director of strategy, convergence and products at BT, said: "The BT Home Hub has been developed through close co-operation between BT and Thomson."

He continued: "We have now rolled out a very advanced and extremely practical offering, bringing together a group of features that have proved really popular."

The first shipments of the new BT Home Hub, which features greater wireless reach and improved energy efficiency, have left the UK.

According to research from analyst Parks Associates, 40 million European homes will have residential gateway solutions by 2012.
