Mobile broadband news

Brits heading away to the Caribbean should know that popular tour operator Sandals is now offering blanket Wi-Fi coverage across all its resorts.

A Wireless local area network infrastructure has been implemented in exotic locations across the sunny islands such as Jamaica and Antigua, meaning holidaymakers from the UK can enjoy high-speed broadband coverage while sipping a cold beverage on the beach.

Ultra-fast broadband access will now be available to British guests in 5,000 rooms over 750 acres of property.

Selina Lo, president and chief executive of Ruckus Wireless, the firm chosen to implement the network, commented: "For the first time, high speed Wi-Fi service can be extended anywhere and everywhere without the constraints of cabling."

She continued: "It gives the hospitality industry a future proofed system that allows companies to easily and more cost-effectively monetize wireless services while giving guests the best possible experience."

One-fifth of those quizzed in a recent survey conducted by T-Mobile said that they would like to lounge with their laptop on the beach.
