A list detailing some of the worst internet service providers (ISPs) for spam has been revealed in a new report by ClearMyMail.

Orange UK was found to be one of the worst offenders, with 96.9 per cent of all emails received classed as spam by its users.

The survey also found that 88.9 per cent of emails received by BT customers were spam, with 82.1 per cent of Tiscali emails classed as spam.

In addition, the average number of spam messages blocked per user in the UK for the second quarter of 2008 came in at 31,000.

However, the website has suggested that although the figures appear worrying, ISPs are doing all they can to protect users and are often "fighting a losing battle".

The risk of spam is also not deterring people in the UK from using ISPs to download content.

A recent report by Broadband Choices found that Carphone Warehouse, Virgin Media and BT being used for 65 per cent of all peer-to-peer downloads.
