The London satellite town of Reading has been chosen to test out a new mobile broadband service from Vodafone.

Reading is one of six locations in which Vodafone is trialling its fastest mobile broadband service, which will be aimed at businesses and those travelling, reports the Reading Evening Post.

It is said that the new service, already up and running in central London, will provide mobile broadband users with speeds competitive with fixed-line connections.

"As we invest significantly in rolling out improved speed and capacity, mobile broadband can not only help grease the wheels of industry in Reading but is also ideal for students and new home owners," Vodafone's head of PC connectivity, Alec Howard told the newspaper.

"With our predictable pricing and seamless quick set up, there has never been a better time to be with Vodafone," he added.

Vodafone recently launched a pre-pay mobile broadband service in Portugal under the name Vita Net.
