Brits are becoming 'addicted' to the internet in large numbers and this is down to the speed of access allowed by broadband technology, according to one expert.

Dr David Lewis is a psychologist who worked on a recent YouGov study which found that 44 percent of British web users admitted to feeling frustrated and confused if unable to get online and that a further 27 percent also experienced increased stress levels.

He has attributed the addictive element of surfing the web to the advance of broadband, which has made the experience more efficient.

Dr Lewis explained: "The proliferation of broadband has meant for the first time in history we have entered a culture of 'instant answers' - a galaxy of information is just a mouse click away and we have become addicted to the web."
