Businesses in the UK will be greatly benefited by the creation of UK-wide, high-speed, fibre-optic broadband network.
That is the view of Computer Weekly's Ian Grant, who has made the point that firms with a global outlook could suffer should improvements to the British broadband network not be made.
Mr Grant says that some companies in the UK are worried that their business could be held back if upgrading to a next-generation network does not take place.
He commented: "Businesses are concerned that the failure to develop high speed national networks would compromise their ability to run their increasingly global, collaborative businesses.
"Fast broadband would enhance research and development, speed up logistics, promote innovation that leads to more knowledge-intensive goods."
Recent research from Point Topic showed that 25 per cent of UK businesses now enjoy broadband packages boasting speed of more than up to 10Mb.
