Mobile broadband news

The blossoming mobile broadband market is one sector which is driving the growth of internet advertising in the UK.

Highlighting the trend, the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) has drawn attention to figures from Ofcom which show that six per cent of adults in the UK used mobile broadband during the first quarter of 2008.

The organisation also pointed to Ofcom statistics which showed 511,000 mobile broadband connections were sold by the five main providers from February to July this year.

According to the IAB: "3G 'dongles', wireless and laptops are no longer a luxury item or confined to business.

"More machines mean more people, more eyeballs, more impressions, and so more advertising."

Three mobile broadband providers - 4u, 3 and the Carphone Warehouse - recently decided to drop the word 'free' from the advertising for deals which include laptops, as it was agreed the term was misleading.
