Britain has the third highest of broadband connections per head in Europe, a new Ofcom report reveals.

The UK is only beaten by Sweden and the Netherlands, which won top spot, reports paidContent.

Further findings revealed that British broadband users spend more time online per week than any other nationality in Europe - 14 hours per week, just behind the US with 15.

The overall market on UK shores continues to grow - by 14 per cent in the past year, compared with 20 per cent in 2006.

It was also found that the growth seen by telecommunications companies was boosted by mobile broadband, the market for which has mushroomed in recent times.

In terms of broadband speeds, Britain seems to be lagging according to research carried by Cisco Systems in September - the country did not make the European top ten.
