Prospective broadband customers who are intimidated by the prospects of long-term contracts should take a look at PlusNet's packages, one expert has advised.

Szu Ping Chan of financial advice website the Motley Fool has highlighted the problem for many broadband users of 18 and 24-month contracts which can be a feature of many of today's deals.

She said that an option is to consider a shorter term plan, albeit for a higher cost in some cases.

Ms Chan explained: "For example, highly praised Plusnet has one-month contract options, as do AOL's Wireless Flexi Deals.

"Both charge connection fees of £40 and £29.99 respectively, but give you the added flexibility of being able to switch or ditch at any time."

A recent survey conducted by PlusNet found that 85 per cent of broadband users access the internet through a wireless connection.
