Mobile broadband packages are a "great offering" for consumers to take advantage of, one expert has said.
James Parker, manager of mobiles and broadband at moneysupermarket.com, has said that by choosing the right deal users can "save money and access the net".
"The range of information, websites and services offered on the internet through your mobile is incredible," he said.
"We're starting to see more and more providers offer special access to social network sites and I'd expect technology to evolve until mobiles offer the same web capabilities as a home computer."
He was speaking after research from the firm found that despite 87 per cent of mobile subscribers having internet-ready handsets, just 24 per cent surf the web on a regular basis.
Costs and speed were the two factors that deter consumers from using mobile broadband, although Mr Parker explained that there are packages available to meet all needs.
"The handsets are out there, people just need to be made aware it's not as expensive as they might think," he concluded.
