Virgin Media news

Pop star Rachel Stevens was chosen by Virgin Media to launch its new 50Mb service - and she took the opportunity to reveal she is an avid broadband user.

The former S Club 7 singer held a fibre-optic cable to represent the means by which over half of the UK will have access to the new offering from next year.

Stevens then told the assembled press gang that she uses the internet regularly and even got her Christmas shopping done online this year.

"I use the internet every day so broadband is essential and the faster the better as it means I can fit more into my day," she said.

The new Virgin Media package is said to be nine times the speed of the average UK broadband connection.

Stevens was taking a break from her stint on Strictly Come Dancing, the popular BBC show on which she has reached the final.
