Virgin Media news

Virgin Media has confirmed what most broadband news providers had expected - Monday, December 15th will see the launch of a new 50Mb broadband service.

Reports had been speculating as to the purpose of the mystery meeting called by the provider for that day - with most assuming the press call was related to the long-awaited high-speed offering.

According to Patrick Goss of Tech Radar, Virgin Media's new service is set to make waves in the market, with other providers finding it hard to match the new connection speed.

He said: "The 50Mb broadband service will be the fastest in Britain and has been extensively tested by the company through this year ahead of its launch.

"The fibre optic service has already caused problems for the online speed-tester industry with Virgin openly pointing out that the tests are not accurate for high-end broadband packages."

After relaying initial invites to the unknown gathering, Virgin Media has now sent out follow-up correspondences confirming the nature of the occasion.
