Broadband customers in Manchester now have a breadth in choice of connectivity, with a new wireless network growing fast.
High-speed connections are currently being enjoyed via Eye WiMAX, which covers a substantial area to the south of the city.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Eye WiMAX's Chris Bretten said that the service is not only faster by also cheaper than a lot of ADSL-based packages.
He commented: "Up until this point we haven't yet covered the whole area with the base stations and the publicity about it has been at a low level. It's cost-effective and up to four times faster than the broadband through a phone line."
Eye WiMAX already has a 400-strong subscriber base without having conducted a marketing drive.
Thousands of east Manchester residents were helped to get online by the Eastserve project, which also used wireless connectivity.
