Ofcom is doing its job effectively as regulator of the broadband industry, one expert has claimed.

Managing Director of, Edd Dawson, has highlighted the grey areas that exist in the broadband sector, specifically relating to customer complaints.

The variables applicable to broadband services, such as location and connection speeds, mean that the industry may require more policing than others, Mr Dawson pointed out.

He commented: "Ofcom have a difficult remit, especially with a product such as broadband which can be technically very challenging when it goes wrong.

"Where we feel Ofcom can really play a part in trying to enforce good customer service."

According to a recently-released study from Ofcom, the average broadband connection speed in the UK stands at 3.6Mb.

Some 93 per cent of those questioned said that they were satisfied with their web browsing experience, although only 67 per cent expressed the same level of contentment when it came to watching or downloading video content.
