BT's popularity does not make up for the fact that there are cheaper broadband offers on the market, according to one expert.

Michael Phillips, Product Director at Broadband Choices, was speaking in the wake of quarterly figures which show BT now has 4.7 million broadband subscribers - more than any rival UK ISP.

However, despite the apparent popularity of the provider, Mr Phillips has pointed out that broadband users can still get more value for money.

He commented: "BT is a trusted name for many consumers, but in these difficult times it's doesn’t offer the best value for money.

"A lack of discounts or special bundled prices means that BT can't always compete on price with the cheaper local loop unbundled providers."

BT Broadband has revealed that it added 83,000 new customers from October through to December last year.
