3 has revamped its mobile broadband and laptop packages with the addition of the Hewlett Packard (HP) Compaq CQ60.
The Compaq CQ60 offer will replace 3’s long-running HP550 laptop and mobile broadband deal, which has now been withdrawn. According to 3, the new 3D Sound Blaster Pro-compatible laptop is “very similar" to the HP550, but "offers more in the way of features”.
These include an AMD SI-42, with 2.1GHz processing power, a five in one card reader, 15.6-inch display, integrated web cam and a full-size keypad as well as Vista Home Basic, 60d Office Trial and MS Works.
The standard retail price for the CQ60 is around £315 when bought on its own. However, the laptop is available for free when customers sign up with 3 for 18-month or 24-month contracts priced at £35 per month and £30 per month respectively. Consumers who opt for the shorter contract term are entitled to a monthly download of 5GB, while the 24-month deal provides a larger limit of 15GB.
Both broadband packages offer a broadband connection of up to 3.6Mb and a free 3 dongle to allow them to get online. Users are also afforded the option to add to their download allowance for just 10p per download.
Jessica McArdle, marketing manager at the broadband comparison site Top 10 Broadband, was hopeful that CQ60 broadband laptop deal would be even more popular than its predecessor.
She said: "After the success that 3's HP550 laptop has had on Top 10 Broadband, it is with a tear in my eye that I announce its replacement with the Compaq CQ60 today. Coming in at £30 for 15Gb usage, however, this new deal looks likely to blow the HP550 sales stats out of the water and, between you and me, I hope it does."
Other laptops available on combined free laptop and mobile broadband packages with 3 include the Compaq HP Mini 700, Toshiba L350-20G and the Fujitsu Siemens Li3710.
