Access to broadband is an essential requirement for companies with staff members working from home, it has been suggested.

An expert from the enterprise communication firm Aastra claims that ensuring employees have access to a high-speed internet connection at home can provide some protection from business disruptions.

Business development manager at the group, Mike Ballantine, also believes that equipping staff with remote broadband access need not be expensive.

He said: "Broadband is a key enabler for remote working.

"There's a lot of technology out there now which makes it much, much easier to deploy a sensible and cost-effective solution for people [working from home]."

Mr Ballantine suggested that while remote working facilities are not essential for all employees, it is vital that "key people" have access to broadband technology.

Last month, the broadband provider Sharedband launched an 80Mb internet package aimed specifically at businesses.
