Telecoms retailer Carphone Warehouse has recorded a £550 million profit, thanks in part to the performance of its broadband arm TalkTalk.
For the year to March 31st 2009, the group was able to bring in revenues of almost £1.4 billion and significantly improve on 2007's bottom line of £73 million.
It also revealed that TalkTalk now has more than three-quarters of its 2.8 million subscriptions based on its unbundled network, which attracted further income.
Charles Dunstone, Chief Executive of Carphone Warehouse, said that the group had succeeded in "growing its total broadband customer base, continuing the migration of its customers onto its leading edge, fully unbundled network and markedly improving customer loyalty".
He added that the recent acquisition of Tiscali for £265 million would help "cement" Carphone Warehouse's stance as a leader in the British telecoms market.
TalkTalk is currently the UK's second-largest broadband provider. The country's biggest, BT, has approximately 4.8 million subscribers.
