BT Broadband has unveiled a great new three-months free broadband deal as it bids to stave off fresh competition from Virgin Media and TalkTalk.

This week, Virgin Media grabbed headlines in the technology press and mainstream media with the announcement that it is revamping its portfolio of National broadband products. The move will see customers who live within the broadband provider’s local loop unbundling network offered connections of up to 20Mb at no extra charge.

Meanwhile, TalkTalk, which recently became the UK’s largest residential broadband supplier by customer numbers when it completed the takeover of Tiscali, has just announced a radical new approach to customer service that prioritises solving problems on the first call made by a customer.

This, coupled with the company’s policy of offering simple packages and cheap broadband, is aimed at retaining existing customers and attracting those who have become disenchanted by poor support they have experienced elsewhere.

BT has responded to the rival telecommunications firms’ gambit for its market share today with a limited-period promotion on its broadband packages that combine home phone and broadband, as well as broadband and TV. BT’s triple play deals that offer broadband, home telephony and TV are also included. The Home and Away package is the sole deal that is exempt from the offer.

Under the terms of the incentive, all new customers who sign up online for any of the packages for 18 months will pay nothing for their broadband for the first three months.

The launch of the new deal comes as Top10’s exclusive online free wine offer with BT is coming to an end. This entitles all customers who take BT option 1, 2 or 3 a case of wine worth £50. In order to qualify for the deal, consumers must sign up before August 7th through Top 10 Broadband.

Jessica McArdle, marketing manager at Top 10 Broadband, said: "BT's three-months free offer will come as a welcome surprise to customers looking to sort out their broadband in this barbeque-free summer.

“The launch of this offer will help BT continue the run of growth they've been enjoying thus far fuelled by such incentives as the Top 10 Broadband exclusive free wine offer."
