Major holiday sites across the UK will have wireless broadband this summer thanks to a new partnership between BT and Wicoms.

Announced yesterday (August 12th), the deal will mean that almost 80 Camping and Caravanning Club sites will benefit from the Wi-Fi service, along with locations at Coastfields Leisure sites in Skegness and three Pontin's sites.

The inclusive service is available to BT broadband customers at no extra cost, while BT Openzone subscribers and O2 iPhone and mobile broadband consumers can also take advantage of it if they have free Wi-Fi minutes in their contracts.

Other users will be able to make use of the service by purchasing BT Openzone vouchers online, which will grant access for less than 1p per minute.

Commenting on the new deal, BT Openzone General Manager Chris Bruce said that it will be very useful for UK holidaymakers, particularly if the typical British weather means that outdoor pursuits are off the agenda.

"Having the option to get online and stay entertained will provide a useful 'plan B' if the weather does its worst and being able to look up tourist information and hunt out local gems will make for a better trip," he explained.
