The Broadband Forum has announced it is to chair a new workshop on standardisation as part of a major industry event.

Robin Mersh, the body's Chief Operating Officer, is to discuss the convergence of technology such as telecommunications, fixed and wireless networks and consumer electronics at the ICIN conference, which is being held in Bordeaux from October 26th.

The event is also set to feature contributions from organisations including the Object Management Group, the Open Mobile Alliance and ETSI.

Discussing the conference, Mr Mersh said: "This workshop offers the rare opportunity for us to come together and bring our experiences and new initiatives and goals to the table.

"The timing is excellent as we all face the challenges of maintaining the momentum of achieving true convergence across all the technologies involved."

Last month, research by the Broadband Forum revealed that Europe now accounts for 30 per cent of global broadband customers, as well as 51 per cent of all IPTV subscribers.
