Almost two-thirds of businesses believe faster broadband speeds have helped them to improve their operations, according to new research by a leading broadband provider.
The study by BT's Business arm revealed that 61 per cent of companies think quicker internet services have had a positive impact on them.
In addition, it was found that companies that supported the use of all kinds of technology had a 69 per cent better than average experience of the recession, with 30 per cent claiming that IT and other measures helped them to save money.
Mark Hegarty, Strategy Director of BT Business, said that "more than ever technology has a critical role to play" in many firms.
He added: "Investing in better technology is emerging as a measure of success in the future for many businesses."
Earlier this month, BT confirmed plans to more than double the availability of its super-fast fibre-optic broadband services across the UK.
