Broadband provider TalkTalk increased its customer base and enjoyed an overall "stronger than expected" performance during the second quarter of this year, it has been revealed.
In a trading update released by its parent company the Carphone Warehouse, the firm was found to have added 77,000 net new customers, although its overall growth dropped to 15,000 when losses recorded during the takeover of Tiscali were included.
The combined subscriber numbers from its TalkTalk and AOL brands now stand at 2.93 million, while 79 per cent of the customer base is now on the firm's unbundled network.
Carphone Warehouse's Chief Executive Officer Charles Dunstone added that TalkTalk and Best Buy Europe's demerger will be completed by March 2010.
He added: "We nevertheless remain confident that TalkTalk Group will end the current financial year with a total broadband base of between 4.1 million and 4.2 million customers."
TalkTalk recently revealed that a residential customer in London has become its first to take up fibre-optic broadband services, as part of BT's trial of the technology in the area.
