More emphasis should be placed on providing fast broadband across the UK, it has been claimed.
Peter Bazalgette, Non-Executive Director of syndication company Myvideorights.com, has claimed that the content industry is more interested in seeing quicker speeds made available than widespread coverage.
He added that it is unlikely a focus could be put on both at the same time.
The expert outlined: "I don't believe we can have both at the same time at the same pace. It's more important to have fast broadband than it is to have universal broadband.
"I think fast broadband comes first and I think it's going to be an economic stimulus."
Recent figures published by Eurostat found that 69 per cent of UK households now have a broadband connection, which is the eighth highest level of penetration seen across Europe.
Countries from across Scandinavia, as well as the Netherlands and Luxembourg, were found to have higher broadband penetration levels.
