Broadband provider BT has announced the launch of a new fibre-optic internet service specifically for businesses.

BT Business Total Broadband Fibre is designed to give company traffic priority at peak times, as well as offer connection and upload speeds of 40Mb and 10Mb respectively, from £30 a month.

It is hoped the service will allow companies to take advantage of a range of technologies, including multiple VoIP, video conferencing and cloud applications, as they look to make their operations more efficient.

Nigel Stagg, Managing Director of BT Business, said the service would offer "capacity and reliability" and allow firms the chance "to enjoy the best possible online experience".

He added: "We are committed to rolling out higher speeds and additional coverage across the UK during 2010."

BT's consumer division recently confirmed the launch of a similar fibre-optic broadband service for residential customers.

The Infinity service is set to be available from £19.99 a month.
