Consumers who sign up to both BT's broadband and digital TV services can now get their hands on a new energy efficient set-top box, it has been announced.

The company's new Vision+ box, which is available in glossy black, consumes around 12 per cent less energy than previous models and includes a 160GB hard drive for viewers to record their favourite shows.

As well as being greener, the box has been designed to complement BT's Home Hub wireless router and is available free of charge for customers who order online before January 15th.

Marc Watson, Chief Executive Officer of BT Vision, said: "We are always looking at ways in which we can improve BT Vision.

"The new BT Vision+ box is not only better looking, it also consumes less energy, something that we know is extremely important to our customers."

News of the set-top box has come after BT recently confirmed it has become the first broadband provider to pass the five million customer mark.
