Broadband customers will soon be able to watch live TV through their computers thanks to a new dongle.
Telegent is behind the technology, which allows users to watch live Freeview TV, chat with friends or attend viewing parties by slotting a USB dongle into their laptop or desktop PC.
The service will work in contrast to other current online sites featuring Freeview, which only tend to stream content after broadcast rather than showing programmes live.
According to Shiny Shiny, the service is not yet compatible with Macs but can be used on Windows machines featuring XP, Vista or 7.
Users also need to be live in an area with a Freeview signal in order for the dongle to function.
Details of the new technology have come after fibre-optic broadband provider Virgin Media revealed it is adding Sci Fi HD and ITV1 HD to its TV packages in the coming weeks.
