For a limited period, all customers who sign up for the Essentials package pay nothing for the first three months of their 18-month contract, saving £20.97. TalkTalk is also waiving the standard £29.99 connection fee for the duration of the promotion, meaning that subscribers pay nothing except landline rental of £11.49.

After the initial three-month period expires the monthly charge reverts to £6.99 for the remainder of the contract term.

Essentials subscribers benefit from a super fast broadband connection of up to 24Mb, depending on their distance from their telephone exchange, as well as a generous 40Mb download allowance. Customer support is free.

Also provided is a free wireless G router, so that the connection can be used by multiple devices all over the house, as well as TalkTalk’s exclusive Magic Desktop educational programme that contains fun tutorials to school children in using email and staying safe online.

The home telephony facet of the offer features unlimited calls to UK landlines on evenings and weekends, including numbers with the prefixes 0845 and 0870, plus free voice mail and free privacy features. To further keep costs down, customers can choose 16 mobile and international numbers and get a discount of ten per cent on all calls.

Additionally, TalkTalk customers can sign up for add-ons called Boosts to tailor their telephony and home broadband deal to their specific needs.

Options include the Mega Download Boost, which doubles the download limit for those on the Essentials package from 40GB to 80GB for just £4 per month. Meanwhile, those in need of more advanced phone functionality can chose the Calling Features Boost, which offers everything from three-way calling as well as reminder calls for special occasions and birthdays and call divert.

TalkTalk’s promotion has arrived as the company is embarking on a sustained drive to augment its status as the UK’s largest broadband provider by customer numbers. The company attained the position last year with the takeover of Tiscali, which boosted its subscriber base to 4.1 million people.

The push for market share looks set to continue this year, after the recent announcement that TalkTalk is set to launch mobile broadband deals for the first time ever in the summer. A forthcoming network security solution that is being touted as ‘infallible’ and which negates the need for customers to use traditional subscription security software such as Norton, could also prove a winning addition to TalkTalk’s broadband proposition.

Alex Buttle, Marketing Director at Top 10 Broadband, said: “Ever since TalkTalk launched its free broadband deal in 2006, it has been a byword for value in the broadband sector.

“The latest three months free and free installation deal is a stunningly attractive offer. If you’re in the market for value broadband, it’s nothing short of essential.”
