Virgin Media offered homeowners on a street in Bolton breakfast as part of a competition to celebrate the launch of its 50Mb broadband in the town.

Residents on Wilkinson Road were treated to coffee and bacon sandwiches after the street won a competition hosted by Tower FM in collaboration with the broadband provider, reports the Bolton News.

The radio station's Brooksy and Vix also entertained local people by presenting their breakfast show from the street.

Jon James, Broadband Director of Virgin Media, told the newspaper: "Virgin Media wanted to welcome Boltonians to a world of entertainment, and rather than create a prize that one individual would enjoy we decided to create a treat for a whole community."

Virgin Media recently announced it is launching an online movies service, which will allow consumers to watch a number of top films via the internet.

Hundreds of titles including Fantastic Mr Fox and District 9 are available through the platform.
