Virgin Media has celebrated the conclusion of network upgrade work in Bolton by treating local residents to an illuminations display, it has been reported.

The broadband provider took its IlluminiCity music and lights show to the north-west town's Victoria Square, after making 50Mb broadband services available to more local residents.

Jon James, Executive Director of Broadband at Virgin Media, told the Bolton News that the firm was aiming to introduce its potential and existing customers to "a world of next-generation entertainment".

He stated: "We created this powerful and immersive event to celebrate the light the powers our unique fibre optic network.

"As a free event designed to engage the whole community, we're delighted to have been able to include the work of local creative businesses, showcasing their talent and helping Bolton to raise its profile."

Last month, it was reported that Virgin Media had commissioned United Visual Arts to create an immersive light installation on London's South Bank.

The display - open to the public until April 19th – is designed to celebrate the tenth anniversary of broadband technology launching in the UK.
