Apple has already sold more than one million iPad devices, just four weeks after the product was introduced in the US market.
With consumers in the UK still awaiting an international launch for the tablet, its popularity among North American consumers will only lead to a greater sense of anticipation.
The launch of a 3G-enabled device this weekend may have led to acceleration in sales, as more users seek broadband services on their iPad.
Commenting on the figures, Apple's chief executive Steve Jobs said consumer take-up had exceeded that of the firm's iPhone device.
"One million iPads in 28 days—that is less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone," he commented.
Retail prices and the precise UK launch date for the Apple iPad are set to be announced on May 10th.
