Broadband provider Sky has revealed its top sports news channel is set to be available exclusively through internet and TV bundles later this year.
Sky Sports News is to be taken off Freeview and will be a premium service, as the company looks to allow the platform to benefit from growth in subscription revenues.
Through the changes, only Sky, Virgin Media and TalkTalk TV subscribers will be able to enjoy the service, while a timeshifted version of Sky Three will replace the news channel on Freeview.
A high definition version of the channel will also be launched later this year.
Barney Francis, Managing Director of Sky Sports, said: "Sky Sports News has been a great success over the last 12 years and we have big ambitions to make it even better.
"As part of a subscription service, customers can look forward to expanded coverage and the launch of Europe's first high definition sports news service."
Sky recently confirmed its acquisition of Virgin Media's range of TV channels.
