Broadband provider Virgin Media is to offer a new high definition (HD) channel as part of its TV packages from next week.

STV, the ITV licence holder in Scotland, has confirmed that its new offering will be available on channel 113 through Virgin Media's bundles before the start of the World Cup on June 11th.

In addition, STV HD will also be open to households with Freeview and offer a range of content in the improved picture quality.

Bobby Hain, Managing Director of STV, said the channel would feature programmes in "crystal clear vision and incredible clarity".

He added: "We're particularly pleased that we'll be offering all of the STV World Cup games in HD for our nation of football fans on both DTT and Virgin Media."

Virgin Media recently revealed it has teamed up with model Abbey Clancy to launch a range of top on-demand TV content to keep women who are not interested in the World Cup entertained.
