TalkTalk news

Broadband provider TalkTalk could become an acquisition target for one of its market rivals, one commentator has speculated.

Mark James, Analyst at Liberum Capital, said it was plausible that mobile broadband provider Vodafone could look to take over the firm, which demerged from Carphone Warehouse earlier in the year.

He noted that TalkTalk was in a good position to take advantage of rising broadband share prices, with larger firms reported to be interested.

"Mobile broadband operators, in particular, are attempting to sell fixed services into their customer bases but have little to show for it," Mr James said.

"Vodafone UK has 19 million mobile customers but so few fixed customers it doesn't release a number. We believe TalkTalk is an attractive target."

Up until the end of the month, TalkTalk is offering six months free to new subscribers on its Essentials broadband and phone package.
