UK mobile broadband providers need to do more to improve the quality of the customer experience, based upon the results of a new study.

Research conducted jointly by mobile data company Acision and YouGov indicates that 84 per cent of dongle users have experienced service problems in the past.

Some 67 per cent of interviewees said they had been affected by low download speeds, while 49 per cent reported coverage problems and 45 per cent connection issues.

Steven van Zanen, Senior Vice-President for Marketing in Acision's Mobile Data Control unit, said the research points to "very specific aspects" where the mobile broadband service could be improved in the eyes of the consumer.

"There is clear consumer support to tackle the fundamental issues in broadband such as cost, quality of experience and value for money," he stated.

Last month, Ofcom announced plans to investigate the quality of mobile broadband services available in the UK.

The communications regulator noted that customer satisfaction levels have historically been lower among mobile internet customers than those with a fixed broadband connection.
