Businesses in the Bracknell area are being held back by a lack of access to high-speed broadband, it has been claimed.

Mark Ashwell, a member of Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce, said that poor infrastructure - particularly with regards to broadband - is the "major issue" for local companies at present.

He told that the area should be "the UK's answer to the Silicon Valley" but it is simply not geared up.

"People could work from home rather than go out on our roads and trains but they cannot because broadband is too slow," Mr Ashwell stated.

"If the UK wishes to be at the front edge of the revolution we need to improve our broadband."

At Castle Howard, North Yorkshire, the town's business park is being constructed with high-speed broadband connections included at the development stage.

NYnet announced this week that all firms basing themselves at the facility will be able to take advantage of high-speed web services, in what is a largely rural county.
