Broadband customers registered with Easynet suffered a serious nationwide outage yesterday morning, it has been reported.

ISPreview.co.uk reports that the internet service provider's (ISP) network went down early on Wednesday November 17th, and took some hours to restore.

Some Sky broadband deal customers are also believed to have been affected by loss of service.

The satellite broadcaster and ISP took over Easynet back in 2005, in a deal which also included the purchase of UK Online – a provider which is set to close in January 2011.

Easynet posted a status report at 12:27 GMT stating that connectivity had been restored, however Option 4 customers and 8 Meg Surestream customers remained affected by the outage.

The ISP said this problem was "under investigation".

Easynet is not the only broadband provider to experience technical difficulties in the past few weeks – BT recently suffered a major outage which affected subscribers in Scotland and the north of England.
