Leading internet service provider BT has signed a five-year deal with Avanti Communications to provide satellite broadband in Cornwall.
The firm will offer broadband deals via Avanti's HYLAS 1 satellite, which successfully launched into space on Friday November 26th.
Satellite broadband services will be supplied to BT as required, primarily as part of a £132 million next-generation access project in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
David Williams, Avanti's Chief Executive, said he was "delighted" the firm would be working alongside BT to ensure all Cornish residents can connect to high-speed broadband services.
"We firmly believe that our complementary business models will prove to be a vitally important example to the rest of the UK and Europe of how to solve the digital divide," he commented.
The £1.2 million satellite broadband deal will also allow BT to offer broadband deals in other parts of the UK.
