Internet service provider (ISP) TalkTalk has launched a new Fibre Optic Boost to its broadband packages.

The upgrade, which can provide download speeds of up to 40Mb, is designed to appeal to users who download films, stream HD content and play online games.

TalkTalk says the boost will also help users share videos and photos with friends more quickly, and enable family members to access the internet via different devices simultaneously without affecting performance.

Households wishing to have the Fibre Optic Boost activated can arrange an engineer visit with TalkTalk, allowing a new modem and router to be installed.

Tristia Clarke, Commercial Director at the broadband provider, said the firm is seeing increasing demand for super-fast broadband, so the service is expected to be "very popular".

"Our Fibre Optic Boost is a great way to ensure seamless connectivity and high upload and download speeds," she stated.

"This boost is ideal for a wide range of customers, such as families who all want to be online at the same time, people wanting to stream HD content, or gamers needing lightning quick response times."
