Satellite broadband provider Avanti Communications has secured five new contracts to provide web services to European businesses.

The firm has reached agreements with two British firms, Buzz Networks and Rural Broadband UK, and also signed up Broadband Algarve of Portugal and Globatel of Spain.

A fifth company, Prime Satellite Broadband, has extended its current satellite broadband deal from three years to five.

David Williams, Chief Executive of Avanti Communications, said sales activity has increased notably since the launch of HYLAS 1.

The flagship satellite entered into orbit in November 2010, while a second – named HYLAS 2 – is currently in development.

Mr Williams said the flexible, efficient Avanti business model, combined with attractive pricing and quality of service, is "clearly resonating with new potential customers around the world".

"As our current customers progress their own sales efforts they are likely to top up their commitments next year, so we expect to sell out HYLAS 1 capacity within the planned three years," he added.
