The rollout of super-fast broadband could propel the internet to become the UK's premier retail hub, it has been claimed.
Jonathan Bowers, Communications Director of hosting firm UKFast, said the wider availability of high-speed broadband deals would "make a big difference" to online business.
Virgin Media is continuing to rollout its new 100Mb fibre broadband network, while BT is upgrading local telephone exchanges across the UK to support 40Mb web services.
And as network investment continues, Mr Bowers believes the opportunities for online businesses will continue to increase.
"A combination of super-fast broadband and speed of delivery from businesses is definitely going to make a big difference," he stated.
"Super-fast broadband is important, as from a business perspective, if the websites you're then searching for are really slow you're not going to have any success in building customer relationships."
Back in December, a Google-commissioned report claimed that e-commerce is worth £100 billion per year to the UK economy.
