Internet service provider (ISP) Virgin Media saw revenues leap by 5.8 per during 2010, after experiencing what it described as the firm's "best ever year".

The home entertainment giant increased turnover to £3.8 billion, with a rise in broadband deal subscriptions making a significant contribution to the cause.

Virgin Media added 44,100 new broadband customers during the final quarter of the year, taking its nationwide total to 4.29 million.

The ISP ended 2010 with a total of 4.8 million subscribers, 63 per cent of whom are triple-pay broadband bundle customers.

Neil Berkett, Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Media, commented: "A strong financial performance combined with the launch of a number of market leading product developments ensured 2010 was a year of great achievement for Virgin Media.

"We have driven our consumer division to its highest ever rate of revenue growth, maintained robust cost control and delivered our best ever financial year."
